Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book A (Grade 7)

This five-book series teaches junior and senior high school students words derived from the most important Greek and Latin roots. Every lesson introduces up to fifteen words derived from two or more classical roots. A dictionary-like format provides all the necessary information, including related forms of the word and sentences illustrating each word's correct usage. Special sections called "Nota Bene" provide information about etymologies and words that might be confused.

Drawings, illustrative sentences, and challenging exercises help students master the vocabulary they need to read works of literature and prepare for SAT's. Exercises based on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, vocabulary in context, and sentence completions not only test students' mastery of definitions but also develop their familiarity with the format of comparable items on standardized tests. Other exercises offer practice in recognizing correct usage. Books D and E also contain an exercise that tests vocabulary in context for each lesson. Paperback, 101 pages.

Wordly Wise 3000 Student Book 7, 3rd Edition

A solid vocabulary is crucial for testing, writing, and the precise communication required by daily life.

Using a contextual approach, Wordly Wise 3000 students are taught to say unfamiliar words and identify any possible similarities to other words, use the word in context, break the word down into parts, and finally look it up. Three thousand carefully selected words taken from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books form the backbone of this vocabulary series. Each lesson begins with a Word List that includes pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, and uses each word in an interesting, contextual, sentence. Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7 is made up of 20 lessons with 15 words in each lesson.

In Book 7, vocabulary instruction focuses on preparing students with strategies to unlock the meaning of words they will encounter in content area texts, literature, and high-stakes tests. Comprehension of the vocabulary words is facilitated and reinforced through Greek and Latin word studies with an emphasis on prefixes, suffixes, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.

This third edition features the same word lists as the second edition, however, the passages and questions that follow the passages have been updated and assigned measures from The Lexile Framework for Reading. Wordly Wise 3000, 3rd Edition is not compatible with 2nd Edition teacher's guides and resources.

Wordly Wise 3000, Book 7 contains 20 lessons; words taught in book 7 include: flabbergast, formidable, grueling, illustrious, lavish, maneuver, naive, perturb, replenish, smolder, ungainly, vulnerable and more. 216 two-tone pages, softcover.
