Pop-Up Blockers
What is a "pop-up blocker" or "pop-up killer"? A "pop-up" is generally an advertisement window that automatically opens when you visit a web page. A "pop-under" is an advertisement window that automatically opens when you visit a page, but hides behind the main window you are viewing. Pop-up blockers stop "pop-up" and "pop-under" ads from automatically opening when you visit a page. It is a good idea to have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer to help you control pages with many annoying pop-up and pop-under advertisements. The problem with this is that if you need to click on a link that opens up a new window, your pop-up blocker will not let you open it. If you find that you are clicking on a link that will not open, check with your pop-up blocker's Help Contents to see how you can "un-block" a page. There are many different versions of pop-up blockers out there so we cannot tell you specifically how to disable yours.

Spyware
Many "free" downloadable software available on the internet contain what is known as "spyware" or otherwise known as "scumware". Spyware will send information about your computer and your browsing habits to an unknown party that usually sells the information they collect to someone else. Some spyware can also mislead you by placing ads or links on web pages, or generating pop-up advertisements. It has been known that some spyware will even add or replace banners on a web page with it's own banners. To scrub your computer clean from spyware or scumware, we recommend trying Spybot - Search & Destroy. There are a lot of other free software on the internet that will get rid of spyware on your computer. Do your research!
