Vocabulary from Classical Roots Book D (Grade 10)This five-book series teaches junior and senior high school students words derived from the most important Greek and Latin roots. Every lesson introduces up to fifteen words derived from two or more classical roots. A dictionary-like format provides all the necessary information, including related forms of the word and sentences illustrating each word's correct usage. Special sections called "Nota Bene" provide information about etymologies and words that might be confused. Drawings, illustrative sentences, and challenging exercises help students master the vocabulary they need to read works of literature and prepare for SAT's. Exercises based on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, vocabulary in context, and sentence completions not only test students' mastery of definitions but also develop their familiarity with the format of comparable items on standardized tests. Other exercises offer practice in recognizing correct usage. Books D and E also contain an exercise that tests vocabulary in context for each lesson. Grade 10 Note: Choose either Vocabulary From Classical Roots listed here or Wordly Wise listed above. This curriculum is more advanced than Wordly Wise. |

Biology the Easy Way"Biology the Easy Way" presents an up-to-date account of the principles and concepts of modern biology. This book is divided into sixteen chapters, each representing an area of specialization in the field of biology. In each chapter, the content discussion is accompanied by carefully placed line drawings of the organisms, organs, structures or processes under discussion. Wherever possible, summary material has been presented in tabular form, providing a quick means of study and review of a given topic. Each chapter in "Biology the Easy Way" provides special study aids that are designed to enhance the learning and understanding of the biological principles or concepts under study. Because scientific discovery and invention cannot be divorced from the history of human life on earth, a Chronology of Famous Names has been included in each chapter. Another study aid included in this book is a listing headed "Words for Study." The important words of biology introduced in the chapter are listed for review. At the end of each chapter are at least 30 questions designed to assess the reader's grasp of some important facts and concepts of biology; an answer key is provided to help with self-evaluation. Also, under the heading "Think and Discuss" a group of four or five questions invites reflection and discussion on the important points covered in the chapter. Some topics include: characteristics of life, cells, reproduction, heredity and genetics, principles of evolution, disease, food and nutrition, and ecology and conservation. |
