Homeschooling And Politics
It seems that there are a lot of hot topics in politics today. Although it has been tempting to try ignore a lot of the controversy "out there", I have always tried to elevate the importance of standing up for what I believe. I am not one to stand on a soap box and rant about the world's problems. But I cannot ignore the morals and standards that I have grown to cherish and the freedom that those morals and standards bring. I cringe when I think about taking this freedom that I love for granted.

Care About It. As a homeschool student, I learned about the values this country was founded upon and I feel that those values have become etched into my life. This I am grateful for. Values such as faith in God and love have been an anchor in my life and I see that they have been an anchor in this nation's history. More than ever before I have become aware of the importance of understanding the political processes this nation employs and to know the issues that are being laid before our leaders. I have found that when I take a good look at some of the issues that are being pressed upon congress there are many things that matter greatly to me.

Talk About It. One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is that there are many opportunities to discuss current issues, events and today's hot topics with the family. Just listening, watching or reading the news together can not only help build "togetherness" but also an importance of being aware of current issues.

Take Action. I've heard it said that knowledge is power. If that is true then I think we all have the power to affect politics and to influence the outcome of bills being laid before our leaders. Congress.org is an incredible tool that can help you keep in touch with local and national leaders and express your concerns about the issues of our day. Send emails. Write letters. Make phone calls. Get your point across and get your friends to do the same. I cannot stress enough the importance of teaching our children and encouraging our friends to be leaders in our communities and nation.
