  • Bob Books First!
What can be more satisfying to a child than to close a book and say, "I read it all by myself!" This series of books for the very beginner will have children beaming with pride. Instead of relying on large print and pictures to teach children to read, Bob Books employs one of the oldest methods around: phonics. Each book focuses on a few vowel or consonant sounds and limits the story to just a few words. Bob books was developed as a step-by-step, book-by-book program to guide your child gently through the early stages of reading. Each level addresses a stage in a child's reading development: Level A introduces the alphabet with very basic three-letter words and short vowels. What's in the box? 1. Mat 2. Sam 3. Dot 4. Mac 5. Dot and Mit 6. Dot and the Dog 7. Jig and Mag 8. Muff and Ruff 9. 10 cut-ups 10. Peg and Ted 11. Lad and the Fat Cat 12. The Vet Plus Teaching guide.

  • Dr. Fry's Phonics Patterns
This book contains 353 phonograms or word families like "camp, damp, lamp, etc." arranged by vowel sounds. It is one of the largest lists of phonograms in existence. It is a basic teacher tool for developing phonics and spelling pattern knowledge to be taught in games, spelling or reading lessons, chalkboard lessons and worksheets. The pages are duplicatable for take-home study sheets. "Onset" refers to the initial consonant(s) sound at the beginning of a syllable and "rime" refers to the vowel plus final consonant. Both research and teacher experience have shown this to be a natural and useful way to break up or "sound out" unknown syllables and unknown words. Breaking syllables into onset and rime also aids spelling. The Preface givese many teaching suggestions and the Appendix contains a diagnostic test and complete phonics charts.
