Learning Language Arts Through Literature
The Yellow Book is intended for third grade students. Features include 36 weekly lessons (which includes 4 book studies) divided into easy-to-use daily plans. The following 4 books may be used for the book studies or you may use other stories which are included in the book: The White Stallion, Madeline, Meet George Washington, The Courage of Sarah Noble. Integrated language lessons include phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, phonics review and higher order thinking skills. Focus on Spelling Tips help with the memorization of spelling rules. Suggested spelling lists are included for each lesson. Handwriting skills pages include instructions and work pages for cursive writing. This book is teacher friendly, with little or no preparation needed. Review activities follow most lessons providing additional skill practice. Assessments help teachers to evaluate the student's progress. Phonics Facts, Grammar Guides, and Punctuation Pointers keep students on track. The 36 lessons include dictation or copying of literature passages from great books your children will love: The Other Kitten, The Tale of Jeremy Vole, Bible Stories to Read, poetry selections and much more. All literature passages are contained in The Yellow Book, but the passage may spark your student's interest to read the book. These books may be obtained through your library or purchased from bookstores or catalogs.

McGuffey's Eclectic Readers
This revision of McGuffey's Eclectic Readers features materials applicable to the various reading levels. Many of the stories, poems, and pictures appear as they did in the first edition, but with a more readable print and also a different layout. Each of the volumes is geared to a particular reading level, and provides vocabulary, phonics and cursive writing exercises. These are based on the original readers, with some minor revisions to make the language more understandable for the current times. Stories and poems have been added. There is a primer and six volumes of readers, each reader progressing to a higher grade level. Could be utilized for entire school experience.
