ACSI Spelling
Research is the foundation for the methods used to teach spelling in this series. Three strategies used for spelling instruction reflect that research: sound-letter relationships, visual memory, and meanings. Word lists are purposely NOT presented as word families but instead are designed to teach most-frequently-used words as well as spelling rules. Writing/composition activities are the major part of each spelling lesson at all levels, and a number of these incorporate Bible topics. Grade Two is an expansion of the basic spelling skills from grade one to include alternate spellings for basic sounds, simple suffixes and the addition of words with two or more syllables. Class activities reinforce these concepts with a variety of activities.

Essential Learning Spelling
Research has shown that learning to spell is a complex process that takes a child from being an "inventive" speller to being an expert speller. Spelling: Your Key to Better Communication provides the guidance and resources to help your students through that process, from first through sixth grade. There are 26 two-page lessons in each book. THe first page of each lesson identigies the pattern commomality of the words in the list and presents them in teh appropriate Zaner-Bloser letter forms. Students are asked to follow the "Learn the Word Strategy". In addition, in the "My Own Words" section, students are asked to list additional words they know that follow the spelling pattern being taught. It is also recommended that students be encouraged to begin a separate "My Own Words Journal" in which they can collect their self-identified words from each lesson as well as interesting, challenging words that they discover through their own reading, writing, and listening. The second page of the lesson, Spelling Workshop, provides activities to help reinforce the correct spelling of the Lesson Words. Strategies are based on phonetic, semantic, visual, and word origin relationships and include student self-monitoring, word comparisons, proofreading, peer checking, and kinesthetic and mnemonic devices.

Success In Spelling
This program is designed to help children obtain successful spelling techniques. It has been said that good spellers are born. This is not true. It is true spelling comes easier for some than for others, and there is evidence that the primary function of the brain affects that process. However, good spellers are those who not only can memorize and remember how a word LOOKS, but also the rules which apply to spelling.
Each level contains daily instructions, test sheets with the words listed for you, games, and a spelling success formula. Success in Spelling 1 suggested for grade 2.

Spellwell
This new eight-book spelling series makes possible an organized, effective spelling program in just thirty minutes of class time per week. Each book is suitable for half a school year. Book A is for the first half of second grade. Book AA must be used for the second half. The first ten to twelve words in each lesson are grade-level words that follow a particular pattern. Sight words frequently used in writing are also included. In addition, each lesson allows space for words from students' reading or writing. Spellwell offers students the opportunity to select words they would like to know how to spell. Spellwell's organization provides for daily practice at home, with class time used for a pretest and posttest and, in some lessons, group games. Spellwell also helps develop students' writing skill with exercises tht ask them to write a paragraph on a specific topic that includes several spelling words. The result will be students with a larger vocabulary who are able to communicate their ideas in writing.

Spell It Write
This book helps students discover and use spelling patterns. As students sort the word cards into groups with shared patterns, they engage in critical thinking and hands-on learning. Pages are perforated to make tear-out cards. Blank cards are also included. Word sorting is an extremely effective technique for focusing students' attention on the spelling patterns--and on variations among those spelling patterns--within the English spelling system. Understanding the similarities and differences among words will help students inspect words successfully, internalize the spelling system, and develop into independent spellers.

Sing, Spell, Read & Write Grand Tour
Sing, Spell, Read & Write is a learning-to-read curriculum that uses a 36-step program of carefully sequenced systematic, explicit phonics instruction to build fluent independent readers. For more than two decades, veteran educator Sue Dickson developed and field-tested this program in her own classroom. Where other reading programs were failing the students who were struggling the most, Mrs. Dickson saw first-hand the amazing results her students achieved when she combined music with multimodal teaching strategies. Using look, listen, point, sing-along, and echo routines along with gross motor and fine motor activities, the program activitely engages the senses and effectively reaches all types of learners. Virtually every child is assured of success. Today, the program has a proven, nationwide track record and the soundness of such an approach is strongly supported by current research on brain function, language acquisition, and reading.
Building upon the language arts instruction of the Level 1 program, Level 2 takes children one step further as they build vocabulary and master beginning reference, spelling, and grammar skills, which include punctuation, abbreviations, homophones, prefixes, and suffixes. This program, which reviews Level 1 phonics skills, includes manuscript and cursive writing exercises as well as proofreading and authentic writing activities.
Kit includes:
Two student texts
Teacher's Manual with answer key
Dry erase marker and eraser
