Sports Page Scavenger Hunts ChallengingSports Page Scavenger Hunts & Other Activities is intended for middle elementary grades through middle school, but the activities may be applicable for younger students interested in sports. These activities will require the teacher to have access to a sports page each day, especially during football, basketball and baseball seasons. The workbook is divided into sections according to individual sports or events. Many activities involve math concepts such as decimals, fractions, or percentages. students will find sports-related themes a good basis for research or independent study. Use the newspaper's sports page to enhance students' reading, math and research skills. |

Math Reasoning Book 2, Grades 4-8Mathematical Reasoning Through Verbal Analysis is a book of math activities designed to be used in a cooperative learning situation. The activities are deceptively simple in appearance. It is essential that the teacher read the Teacher's Manual before beginning the lesson. Only in this way can he/she become fully aware of the multilayered learning that takes place when students explore all the information that can be gleaned from one exercise. The materials were NOT designed to be used as an independent workbook. After the teacher has thoroughly discussed the example, and introduced and defined any vocabulary that is new to the students, the class may proceed to work the next few exercises independently or in a small group. However, the students will not receive full value from the lesson unless each exercise is discussed in the manner outlined in the Teacher's Manual. As a result of exploring each exercise to the fullest extent, layer by layer, the students should show significant gains in vocabulary development, increase observation skills substantially, and be able to process mathematical concepts on a much higher level. This workbook covers number and numeration, geometry, operations, measurement, relations, and tables and graphs. Teacher's Manual available below. |

Teacher's ManualMathematical Reasoning Book 2 introduces children in the intermediate and middle school grades to the application of analytical and critical thinking skills within the study of mathematics. The primary goal of this book is not to teach students a set of arithmetic skills, but to encourage them to develop analysis and reasoning skills applicable to a wide range of mathematical concepts. The activities presented in the book encourage students to develop investigative, analysis, and discussion abilities. The activities explore a variety of quantitative and spatial relationships that form the foundations of mathematics. The number systems (whole and rational) and elementary geometry are used in the activities as vehicles to promote the development of these numerical and spatial concepts. This workbook consists of 1374 individual exercises on 238 reproducible student activity sheets arranged in six sections. These sections address six major strands in the elementary mathematics curriculum: number and numeration, geometry, operations, measurement, relations, and tables and graphs. The first two sections develop an understanding of basic number and geometric concepts. The remaining four sections build upon these number and spatial understandings and investigate their relationships and applications in problem solving. |
