Early American HistoryThis study guide is designed for the student of American History who desires to understand the hand of God in the American saga. Seeing God's hand in the events of the past gives us vision and hope for the future. We have therefore carefully selected literature that best embodies this truth. This guide has also incorporated the Principle Approach, which is a method of applying Biblical principles to every area of life. This approach was developed by Verna Hall and Rosalie Slater through their books entitled, The Christian History of the Constitution and Teaching and Learning America's Christian History. We have chosen to use a somewhat simplified version of the Principle Approach in presenting the material for this level and suggest the use of America's Providential History by Mark Beiles and Stephen McDowell. We have introduced the First Five Principles of the Principle Approach in this study. These are included at the back of the study guide. This course is designed to incorporate a simple notebook approach. Each student uses the notebook to record reports, student maps, Scripture verses, illustrations, principles, and so on. Course Outline: The Vikings; Marco Polo; Columbus; First English Colony, Jamestown; The Pilgrims, Plymouth; The Colonial Era; Pre-Revolutionary Era; The American Revolution; The Louisiana Purchase; The Civil War. Grades 4-6 The following books accompany Early American History: Leif the Lucky, Columbus, Pocahontas, Benjamin Franklin, * A More Perfect Union: The Story of our Constitution, America's Providential History, *The Landing of the Pilgrims, *The Lewis and Clark Expedition Coloring Book, *Abe Lincoln Grows Up, America's Paul Revere, Amos Fortune: Free Man, The Life of Washington, *Go Free or Die, *Sacajawea, Guide to Lewis and Clark, *Walking the Road to Freedom, William Bradford, Pilgrim Boy, *The Vikings, The Star Spangled Banner. From Sea to Shining Sea for ChildrenFrom Sea to Shining Sea for Children tells America's story during its first fifty years. These were the days of Benjamin Franklin and Daniel Boone, Francis Asbury and Charles Finney, Andrew Jackson and Sam Houston. During these years Conestoga wagons and circuit riders became famous, Indian wars and slavery were major concerns, and the Louisiana Purchase and the Oregon Trail expanded American boundaries from sea to shining sea. But God was also at work in the young nation, giving its settlers exciting opportunities to shape its history and to be His people. Softcover, 208 pages. |

Creation to the Resurrection, Second Edition, Volume 1: The Mystery of History SeriesThe Mystery of History Volume 1 is written from a Christian, young-earth, perspective, teaching children to see God's hand throughout history...and how the Gospel of Jesus is the mystery behind all of history! Written in a conversational style, many lessons are presented in the form of mini-biographies, integrating fascinating stories with the events of the time. Covering creation to the resurrection, students will learn about famous biblical characters, ancient peoples, and well-known men such as Aesop, Buddha, Pythagoras, Confucius, Emperor Asoka, Herodotus, Caesar, Hannibal, and Herod. Arranged by quarters and weeks, each quarter begins with an "Around the World" summary of events to introduce the time period; lessons progress chronologically with each week having 3 lessons, a pretest, review, and exercise or quiz. The 108 lessons will take a year to complete if you follow a traditional 36 week school year. Activities are broken down by age group and reinforce the material just learned through fun ideas that engage all learning styles; they're based upon the classical grammar/logic/rhetoric stages. Review exercises cover the timeline and map work exercises; quizzes are cumulative reviews that go over material from the very beginning of the course; the semester-long tests are similar (though longer), covering materials from 2 quarters (one major time period). Quarter-end worksheets help students synthesize what they've learned and keep everyone straight! Suggested Schedules for different age groups are included, as well as plenty of reproducibles. Line-listed answers included. 636 pages, activity pages reproducible, softcover, three-hole-punched and perforated pages. Grades 4-8, but adaptable for the family.
