Just Write Book 1, Teacher's GuideWe often think of the ocean as deep and silent, a void where there is neither light nor sound. Here, examine an ocean that might be a bit noisier than what you're used to! Croaking fish and clacking shrimp are only a few of the creatures who aren't so silent after all. However, when we turn to the spiritual deep, we not only need ears to hear, but a new heart as well. Approximately 30 minutes, Spanish track included. |

Just Write, Book 2Just Write helps students become confident, expressive writers. They begin by brainstorming for ideas, choosing a topic, and then planning their story using story webs. The writers then move on to developing literary elements such as characters, setting, and conclusion. Well-written passages provide models of good writing. Concept introductions are followed by numerous writing exercises to give students practice in using their new skills. Throughout, students are encouraged to see themselves as writers and to consider their eventual reader as they write. They learn strategies for planning that will help when they are faced with prompts in standarized writing assessment tests. To help students become comfortable with writing, they are first urged to "just write" without worrying about spelling and punctuation. Later chapters discuss capital letters, basic punctuation, spelling, indenting, and constructing paragraphs. Other chapters encourage the use of colorful descriptions, creative word choices, and comparisons. In the last chapter, students revise and edit their work in preparation for "publishing" a final draft. Tips for making stories into books are also provided. Grades 2-3. |
