Horizons Phonics & Reading, Grade 1, Complete SetHorizons Phonics & Reading Grade 1 is another addition to the exciting and innovative Horizons curriculum line. Just like the other Horizons materials, there are 160 lessons and 16 tests contained in the two student workbooks. An extensive Teacher's Handbook provides plenty of tips and teaching strategies. This program will capture the interest of young students with the interesting illustrations and colorful pages. Reading skill develops as the students master the phonics concepts. After its initial presentation, each concept appears a second time as a "review" and is reinforced a third time as a "checkup." Teacher directed lessons explore the phonetic sounds and guide the students as they practice the concepts. This material will help the student become a proficient reader one step at a time. Two readers contain stories that follow each lesson. These allow the student to apply the phonics concepts they were taught in the lesson. Memorization of phonics/spelling rules assists the student in recognizing the relationship between letters and speech sounds - a skill that will enable them to decode new words. |
